Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o Coming to Cologne and Berlin

Literature lovers in Cologne and Berlin have something to look forward to this month. Kenyan literary genius, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o, will be coming to the two city.

Ngũgĩ’s first event will be on the 18th June in Cologne as part of the “Stimmen Afrikas” (African Voices) project by the Allerweltshaus. The event will have Ngũgĩ reading from many of his various works that have been translated into German. In addition, Kenyan performing artist, Steven Ouma, will be performing at the event. Admission is free.

Second on his itinerary will be the “Dynamics of Interweaving Performance Cultures” conference at the Freie Universität Berlin which will be running from 21st till 24th June. The conference which is a collaboration between the Freie Universität Berlin and  the Akademie der Künste Berlin, seeks to consider globally shifting conditions of performance making, to identify overarching themes and topics, and to create a new dynamic in international scholarship on performance—especially by proposing ‘epistemological interweaving’ as a new methodology.

Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o, will be giving the Keynote speech on “The Language of Performance” on Saturday morning. Admission is free, but you’ll need to register for tickets by sending an email to:  ticket@adk.de
