Wangari Maathai Makes it to Spiegel’s List of Famous Professors

The German newspaper Spiegel recently put together a list of Famous professors from TV, Film and Radio in which our very own Wangari made it to the list. 

Although Wangari passed away two years ago in 2011, it’s great to see her still being celebrated in a foreign land. She was put on a list together with Dr. Toni Morrison, Marie Curie (first woman to win the Nobel Peace Price) and many other famous women who won the nobel peace price.

The message below her message was:

Meistens wurde die “Mutter der Bäume” Wangari Maathai für ihr Umweltengagement gelobt. Sie kämpfte aber auch für die Rechte der Frauen, gegen Armut und die Vetternwirtschaft in ihrem Heimatland Kenia – und sie war Professorin an der Uni Nairobi. 2004 bekam sie den Friedensnobelpreis. 2011 verstarb sie im Alter von 71 Jahren.
