A recent report has shown that the number of people having to take up Hartz IV in order to survive is increasing, at least by 14% since last year. Although people who loose their jobs can receive Arbeitslosengeld I, for most this is not enough and they have to get Hartz IV to supplement their income.
Apparently, considering the number of unemployed people is higher than the amount of money in the coffers, unemployment benefits are no longer a guarantee for those that pay for it during their working days.
In order for one to receive the basic €668 for rent and heating, the person should earn atleast €1600. And for those that earn less they have to supplement the Arbeitslosengeld with Hartz IV when they are unemployed.
