Meet Betty M. Ngari – A Voice for the Voiceless Female Refugees

Elisabeth (Betty) M Ngari, originally from Kenya and has been in Germany since 1996. Betty came to Germany with no papers and lived here for 6 years as a refugee (asylum seeker) in Prenzlau. In 2002 together with 11 other women, they formed Women in Exile and organization that aims to fight for the rights of women and children living in asylum homes and homes for illegal immigrants in Germany.
She continues to work with female refugees in the refugee homes teaching them about their rights and fighting for their rights. She says her experience as a refugee makes her sensitive to the issues affecting other women in refugee homes.
