Seems to be the season for MPs to travel, we had Kenyan MPs come to Germany for benchmarking (whatever that means) and the Senators on a study visit, and now the German MPs are reciprocating and they were this week in Kenya as well.
The delegation of CDU/CSU MPs was led by Hon. Gerda Hasselfeldt, the Deputy Leader of Majority in the German Parliament and a former Minister of Health and of Urban Development. The group was in Kenya from 14th – 16th April to discuss Kenya-German relations, particularly development cooperation and environmental policy. Regional challenges such as the stabilisation of Somalia and South Sudan as well as refugee flows were also part of the discussions.

They met with several individuals while in Nairobi including: the German UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner, Leader of Majority in Parliament, Hon. Aden Duale as well as the Chairman of the committee on Defence and Foreign Relations, Hon. Ndung’u Gethenji. The visit demonstrates the high level of cooperation between Parliaments in Germany and Kenya.

This was the first visit of German Parliamentarians following the elections in autumn 2013.
