The Embassy in Berlin is one of the over 60 Kenyan Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates in the world that will be getting a new Ambassador from the new government. Unlike before when Ambassadors were picked by the President and given the job; under the new constitution, Ambassadors will be appointed by the President but will have to be vetted by Parliament before they can be sent off on duty.
Some are speculating that most of the TNA and URP allies who lost the last elections will see themselves get Ambassadorial posts. Here are a few names being floated by insiders. Who among these would you like to see come to the German office? Do you have your own suggestions? Do you think the German office is important enough to be used as a token to appease those who supported TNA and URP, or will Germany just get just anyone up for the job?
- Former Environment Minister Chirau Mwakwere
- Former Finance Minister Amos Kimunya
- Former Justice Minister Eugene Wamalwa
- Former Mutito MP, now the Narc party leader Kiema Kilonzo
- Former assistant minister Ndiritu Muriithi
I think, all Kenyans should own the Embassy and the only way to do that is to get involved with it. Many of us have complaints but all we do is complain on FB or in our homes, but never come out to express these complaints publicly or formally to the Embassy in order for changes to be seen.
As Kenyans in Germany, how do you think we can influence the Embassy? Do you think we need the embassy as diasporans?
The current Ambassador to Germany hasn’t been recalled, but the government has already recalled 39 Ambassadors, who were expected in the country earlier on this week.
