Free Wi-fi in German Train stations

FairTradePhone

The German Telekom and the German Railways have come together to offer free wifi in 104 German train stations.

Each passenger is allowed 30mins a day to surf the net for free. The 30mins have to be used all at once, it’s not possible to use 15mins in one station in the morning and the remaining 15 later on in another station. Anyone interested in more surf time has to pay for it.

This comes after Düsseldorf announced that they’d be offering unlimited internet in the city center.

Is there a possibility that in the future, we won’t need to pay for unlimited internet on our phones because it will be offered for free everywhere you go?

How it works

  1. You have to be in one of the train stations offering free wifi (check list below)
  2. Connect your gadget to the wi-fi
  3. Open your browser window, and type in your desired web address
  4. The Telekom page will open prompting for your cell phone number
  5. Enter your phone number on the Telekom page
  6. The access codes will be sent to your phone per SMS
  7. Enter the access code to the Hotspot portal
  8. Surf the net for 30mins for free
