Where to get HELP for People with a Drinking Problem

Alcoholism is a disease that is killing us as individuals and as a society. Some people had sent me messages after I posted about alcoholism in the Kenyan community  (Check: Former KIG Shares about being an Alcoholic and Alcoholism, we need to act NOW) and the main question was, where can one get help?

The goal of getting helping is to completely stop drinking and NOT to reduce your intake. Experts have confirmed that, for treatment to work, it depends 99% on the patient’s determination and will rather than on the capabilities of the clinic or doctors helping the patient.

There are  different methods used to treat different kinds. The lucky ones wake up one day and say never again and that’s the end of their alcoholic days but for others they need both therapy and regular visits to the doctor. I have compiled a list of clinics and Alcoholics Anonymous stations.

Clinics offer the chance for patients to go there for a specified time and learn how to be clean before they are released while the alcoholics anonymous are small groups where patients meet regularly and discuss about their walk. Some go for the AA after coming out of the clinic, others only go for AA without ever going to a clinic. All these are options open to those interested, it’s up to the patient to decide what works best for them and where they are most comfortable. The AA is open to those with a drinking problem; alcoholics and anyone who might be interested in taking part in such a session. For the open sessions, friends and family are also welcome to come along to the meetings

To avoid backsliding it is also important to change your hanging out joints and/or even the friends.
