The Tanzanian German Program for Nurses and Health Workers

doctors, nurses in hospital

Remember during the last post on Germany importing Foreign Nurses, I told you there was also a program running in Tanzania that is aimed at “harvesting” nurses and health workers from Tanzania? Well now I got my facts right and it’s not just a rumor but an existing program.

The program named “Tanzanian German Programme to Support Health (TGPSH)” is run by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and financed by Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW). It was launched in 2003 in Tanzania and is currently running in 4 provinces namely: Tanga, Lindi, Mbeya and Mtwara. The program trains the health professionals in cooperation with Universities in Tanzania and Germany.

Their focus points are:

  • Social Health Protection
  • Decentralised Health Governance
  • Quality Health Services (Focus Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights)
  • Private Sector Cooperation
  • Civil Society Organisation

For those interested, you can apply for internships: TGPSH Internships.
