Have no Time for a Fulltime Ausbildung? Try Part Time

Bundesagentur für Arbeit

For most mothers and fathers, it is quite taxing to try and get an ausbildung while still trying to take care of a young child. Although the Minister of Families already declared getting a Kita platz as a right, there aren’t enough positions for the existing children in Germany forcing most parents to take care of their children at home.

The Bundesagentur für Arbeit has developped a Part time Ausbildung for the young mother and fathers and young people who cannot work either due to a handicap or because they have to take care of sick relatives. Not everyone is allowed to take up a part time Ausbildung.

There are 2 types of part time Ausbildungen:

  • Without affecting the duration of your Ausbildung- this demands that you work between 25 and 30hrs a week.
  • With an extended duration – the ausbildung can extend by 6 to 12months. For this you need to work at least 20hrs a week.

The Azubi chooses what time to take up the Ausbildung either Morning, Afternoons or a time account (Arbeitszeitkonto).

The part time Ausbildung contract is the same as the usual contract but contains a paragraph that allows you to work part time. This is ensured by the Bundesagentur für Arbeit.
