Programme Description

Sponsorship of gifted students is stipulated in the founding charter of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. This principle has remained unchanged to the present day. Applicants are not required to be members of any political party; commitment to political and social issues, personality and above-average achievements in previous academic studies are however expected. Applicants from low-income families are given special consideration.

Basic sponsorship which can be a scholarship for a first professionally qualifying degree or sponsorship of a postgraduate/Master‘s degree programme, amounts to 650.00 EUR, which is not a full sponsorship. It should however be possible to cover most of the arising costs with this sum. Besides the financial aspect, scholarship holders are also offered a wide range of immaterial support.

Up to 40 persons from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe are admitted to the sponsorship programme every year.

Target Group

Foreign applicants who are already studying or doing a doctorate in Germany – at a state or state-recognised institution of higher education or university of applied sciences.

Academic Requirements

• Applicants are required to be studying in Germany already.

• First graded evidence of academic achievement has to be available at the time of application.

• Evidence of adequate German language skills has to be provided.

Duration
Sponsorship is offered for the standard period of study for stage II studies. Extensions may be negotiable in exceptional cases.

Scholarship Value
Foreign scholarship holders receive 650.00 EUR per month and the cost of health insurance. The foundation also offers a family allowance of 276.00 EUR for scholarship holders with child(ren).
